Getting Started
Getting started in triathlon is really easy. Just like training, if you break it down into pieces and work on each piece individually it becomes easy to do.
The starting point is to work out what you want out of the sport. Is it general fitness, the opportunity to compete, the chance to meet some new people, or what? Triathlon can be whatever you want it to be.
Tips for getting started include:
- If you’re not a confident swimmer then get some lessons to build your confidence. Your local pool can help.
- Find a bike that is the right size for you, set up correctly for you, and comfortable to ride.
- Start small and slowly build up the running. You don’t need to sprint 5km for your first run!
- Get together with some friends and do your first event as a team
- Come along to one of the club social events to meet and talk to others – we’re a friendly bunch!
- Check out the training squads our club members are involved in, and especially our first timer’s squad
- Talk to a coach about your goals
- Use one of our free training programs to prepare for your first event
