Training
There are plenty of different ways to train for triathlon. The key is to find ways that work for you so you can train regularly and consistently. A few ideas include:
- Join a training squad
- Get together with a few friends and have your own squad
- Establish a regular routine that works with your family / job / lifestyle
- Get the kids involved in your training (counting laps, sprinting a length of the field each time you go past, riding while you run, etc)
- Find training locations and routes that inspire or challenge you
- Mix up the terrain, distances, and paces for a different challenge each time
An average of half an hour per day training is plenty to get you going in triathlon, and many of our club members are doing standard distance triathlons (1500m swim, 40km bike, 10km run) with only six to seven hours training a week. That’s a very manageable amount for most people.
Of course training is not only about swimming, biking, and running all the time. There’s plenty of opportunity to cross train with other sports, and do other types of training to contribute towards your triathlon goals.
